Poem: Letter
Letter LI
Nepal, 25 April 2015

Dear Mother,

I hope you will be…erm...okay. I guess?
This will be a different letter from the previous ones.

They cannot be free to roam anymore.
Children’s feet cannot stumble across untainted grass.
A memory that disappears at times,
But you will hold it dear forevermore.
Be prepared for us to let you down with spillages, landfills
More,
Worse.
Mother, do not fault us for wanting more.

Love from,

Letter LII
Haiti, 28 September 2016

Greedy things are we not?
Mother, we request; herbs and vegetation.
Mother, you gave us; animals, living things, land.
Mother, we want fuel, artificial beauty, landfill sites.
You sustain us, hand us water, make us the food.
Sheltering us then, now, and later.

Best wishes,

Letter LIII
Bangladesh, July - September 2017

Do you know what’s happening?
They’re sprinkled with pesticides.
They’re thrown away.
Not given back to you or to ones in need.
It’s all about capitals I am afraid.

Yours Sincerely,

Letter LIV
Somewhere 2032

Dear Mother,

It has been a while, has it not?
Most of us, the arrogant, forgotten you.
Yet, we all rely on you.

We will come for more.
We will destroy more.
We will take more.

Yours Faithfully,
