Poem: The Corporal Link

Poem: The Corporal Link
You forget
All that has come before
The pain - the hatred - the war
They close your mind with an iron curtain
Inside a border of state security
The cries are hidden
Under songs of birds freer
Than the men who live among you
And you know you need to stand and march
Your feet tired but your heart
Filled with meaning
You stumble and as the
streets fill, you falter, they are hidden
behind masks and flags of a corporal building you
stand and rattle at the chains

Till they break apart.
